Our purpose
Faringdon Connect is an action group of people who want to use their skills, lived experience and passion for helping improve wellbeing and mental health in Faringdon. By action group, we mean that we want to make great stuff happen in Faringdon, to benefit the people of Faringdon.
It is not intended to be a therapy or support group, but we do recognise the powerful psychological benefits of being part of a meaningful group of likeminded people. To that end, we welcome people with all kinds of lived experience who are keen to use their insight to help others.
We recognised that many of us have lived experience (of mental health problems or reduced wellbeing) not just personally, but also through family, friends and the community. It’s hardly surprising when we know that 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England. We want to destigmatize talking about mental health and normalise conversations that allow us to honestly say how we feel.
Isolation and loneliness are a big concern for society as a whole and we know that it can massively increase the likelihood of people developing mental health problems…this brings us back to the idea of Faringdon Connect.
